African Child Trust (‘A.C.T.')
“‘ACT' is a UK registered Christian charity with a vision to support the education and welfare of the children of needy widows in Africa” says Kunle Onabolu, who founded the charity 8 years ago. “Our vision is grounded in the biblical principle set out in James 1:27:
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world, ” he went on.
The objective of ACT is to provide education for fatherless children and orphans and to support financially the poor widows who are unable to sustain themselves. This is facilitated by channelling funds through local Christian churches or organisations in communities throughout Africa where they have partners. Through the care teams, these churches carry out the work at the ground level on behalf of ACT. They know those children and widows in their local communities who have the most need and recommend them for support. Once selected, the children tend to be sponsored from the age of 6 through to 21 when they would have completed their secondary school education. To date ACT have been supporting over 400 children in Zambia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Uganda. You can find out more about their work at www.africanchildtrust.org.uk.
You can get involved by sponsoring a child, volunteering, giving and by praying. You can also encourage your Church to include ACT in their missions support. Contact information is indicated below:
