Nigerian GP's at Hi -Tech Surgery in Basildon

East Thurrock MP Angela Smith recently opened a newly refurbished Great Berry Surgery in Basildon, Essex which is part of the Government initiative to revolutionise the National Health Service. The surgery which is based in two locations namely the Knares, Vange and Nightingales, Langdon Hills has undergone a £1m face lift and now has an operating theatre for minor operations such as endoscopies, vasectomies, removal of lumps from head and neck, ingrown toe nails, HRT implants for menopause and IUS coil insertion for family planning, to name some of the procedures. It also has a state of the art, touch screen appointment system, together with computerised test results which cut down on the time patients spend waiting at the end of a phone.

It is envisaged that trainee doctors will be offered training for minor surgery in the near future and says Dr Macaulay, who joined the practice in 1998 having relocated with his family from Leeds, “we are looking forward to being a family planning clinic and centre of excellence in primary care in the UK!”

Great Berry is the second largest surgery in Basildon with over 10,000 patients. According to the recent Basildon Primary Care Trust survey, The Knares, scored 98.3% quality points! Three of the six doctors are Nigerian; Dr Macaulay, Dr Salako and Dr Adenaike. The surgery also boasts of 5 nurses together with facilities for appointments to see the health visitor, midwife and dietician.
