Samu'ila Danko Makama is chairman of Nigeria's National Population Commission, which is organizing the census. His shirt reads: "You Count. Make Sure You Are Counted."

1st Census in 15 Years

21 March 2006 marked the beginning of the 1st census Nigeria has had in 15 years. With digital processing of the forms, questions relating to religion and ethnicity left out, and satellite positioning used to identify the areas where people were to be counted, it is anticipated that the final count will be a lot fairer and more accurate, despite the logistical problems and allegations that many were left out of the count. The final figures are expected in September /October this year.
