Food for Thought

Time is priceless, it waits for no man and often runs out, so why do we waste it or procrastinate as 13 year old Ayo points out in his comic book? In the end it never pays off, but none of us can turn back the hands of time.

Our bedroom at home doubles up as a study, it's far too small and I struggle terribly trying to put things back in the same place after I use them. The result as you probably know is chaos for starters, but more importantly it is extra work meeting deadlines because I can never find anything straight away when I need it. Luckily for me, I am trained to think on my feet so I usually overcome most disasters.

This year has flown by and been rather chaotic, but looking around me I don't seem to be in the minority. Many others appear to be tuned in to the same frequency. Do you meet the goals that you set for yourself? Do you wish there were more than 24 hours in a day?  Do you return telephone calls or respond to correspondence when you say you will? Do you leave people waiting for an unacceptable period of time ruining a special occasion, arrive so unfashionably late that the party is already over or stand them up all together? Do you think African time is ok because it is so rampant it should be in the English dictionary?  Don't get me wrong, I have been guilty of this from time to time but I am not proud of it. On the contrary, I am ashamed and each time I fall down in this regard I mentally tell myself I will do better the next time. For me punctuality and reliability are characteristics that I admire in others and wish to emulate myself.

I know it is a fact of life that people may be in a different place to ourselves and at times like these we need to empathise and accept any lapses. However, in the same token we need to be more appreciative of the cost to others when we disappoint or let them down. I don't suppose there is any hard or fast rule at the end of the day, but perhaps if we each of us individually and collectively worked harder and dealt with the issue of time it would revolutionise our world. Perhaps we would all be happier, healthier, less stressed, more productive and richer in every sense of the word. .Occasionally time out to organise oneself saves time and that could make the world of difference!
