Food for Thought

JESUS, THE CHRIST – THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

For there is born to you this day in the City of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord…..And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men ' Luke 2:11-14

The reason why they were rejoicing and praising God was because an end had been declared to the conflict between heaven and earth. The fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden had left dire consequences of sin on the earth. The birth of Jesus, the Christ was God's gesture of goodwill toward men. This was the Peace Offering that was needed.

Jesus, the Christ came to give His life as a ransom for many. He came to pay a debt He did not owe for a people (you and I) who owed a debt which they could never pay.

The reason we celebrate Christmas is because He achieved the purpose for which He came. He came, He did and He conquered! He became the door through which man can be translated from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light . The price to pay was too high but He paid the price.

While we enjoy the lights, the cards, the gaily-wrapped presents and the parties, we should remember that He was born, lived for 33 years and went to die on a cross and rose again on the third day – so that you and I might live. This is the greatest gift of all. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. Have you acknowledged the greatest gift of all? Do you believe He died and rose so that you can live? It is all about Him and He is the reason for this season!
