The Beautiful Game

Football is fun but there are a few rules that everyone needs to know …

Teamwork

It's all about team work; you work as a team to win the game. When you pass the ball to each other it is easier for someone to score, so one person must not hog the ball all the time.

Red and Yellow Cards

There are red cards and yellow cards. The first yellow card means you have fouled someone and you get a warning, after a second one you get sent off and if you get a red one straight away it means you can't play the next match!

Penalty

When a person gets fouled away from the penalty box he or she gets a free kick. If the foul is in the penalty box the person gets a penalty. The ball is put on the penalty spot and one of the players takes a shot at the goal keeper.

Off Side

When a player kicks the ball to you and you are behind the last defender, you are offside, which means the other side gets a free kick. However, when someone takes a corner, it is never off side.

Goal Keeping

When a player on the goal keeper's team kicks the ball back to him and the keeper picks it up, it is a foul and a free kick to the other side.

Handball

If you touch the ball with any part of your hand, it is a hand ball, which is a foul and a free kick to the other side.

Throw in

Always remember to keep both your feet on the ground when taking a throw in, if your feet go off the ground, you lose the throw in to the other side.

Swearing

Swearing is not allowed. If you swear at anyone and the referee hears, you get a red card straight away.

I am 11 years old and play for Forest Glade, next year we are going up to the premier league, which will be quite challenging. I play left wing and would like to be a professional footballer when I grow up.

Football is a great game and you can learn all sorts of tricks with the ball, it's really good fun. You might get hurt, but you get used to it and it is good exercise too. So if you are looking for a hobby-whether you are a boy or a girl- football is it!
