The Silverbird Group

The Silverbird Group is a firmly established Nigerian institution with an indisputable track record in the provision of contemporary family entertainment. Ben Murray Bruce taking his cue from his father, Pa Murray Bruce before him established the brand, which is very much a family run business. Younger brother Guy, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, is the current CEO. Silverbird is part of the Dominoes supermarket chain which Pa Murray Bruce built into a house name in the 1960's and used as training ground for all of his children to learn the various skills which have stood them in good stead in their respective business ventures today.

In the 80's Silverbird were the first to promote international groups such as Dynasty, Shalamar, Lakeside and the Whispers, to name a few. Today the group is better known for The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria ‘MBGN' beauty pageant, which was established in 1986 and behind Agbani Darego Miss World 2001, the first ever Nigerian or African to win the title! Munachi Nwankwo, Miss Imo is MBGN 2007 having beaten 25 other contestants in March earlier this year.

Silverbird branched out into Television and Radio and in May 2004 made history again when it became the second company in the whole of Africa to open a 5 screen Cineplex and Galleria. The construction was completed under the supervision of experts from all over the world at a cost in the region of N1 billion. The complex, which is state of the art, rivals similar ventures anywhere in the world. It is based on 5 floors and boasts of a variety of shops, eateries, banks, offices, a Nu Metro bookshop, Internet café and Cubes nite club. But most importantly for all the film buffs out there, it has its own in house generator to ensure that there is uninterrupted power supply!
