Have you just started Secondary School? Are you feeling lost and all alone? Konnections spoke to Grace Onwuamaegbu who attends the City of London Girls School and is in year 8. She had a few problems when she started Year 7 but quickly overcame them. She has made lots of friends and is very popular.

Question: What was your first impression of Secondary School?

Grace: At first I had my doubts, it was one hundred times bigger than my primary school and I was always getting lost. We had a different teacher for each subject and I could not remember their names to start with. I often felt left out because everybody seemed to know somebody else.

Question: How did you make friends and settle down?

Grace: I joined lots of clubs and engaged in activities such as the Gospel Choir, Football, and Basketball. I also made friends on the way home and got to know friends of friends.

Question: What advice do you have for children who have just started year 7?

Grace: Always be yourself and join as many clubs as possible. Observe people before you act so you don’t get mixed up with the wrong crowd.
